Origin
The Vriesea Era is a member of the Bromeliaceae family, a large family of plants originating from tropical and subtropical America. The plant is named after Willem Hendrik de Vriese, a Dutch botanist from the 19th century. It's part of a diverse group, consisting of some 200 different species.
Characteristics
The Vriesea Era can be identified by its characteristic sword-shaped flower stems and long, green leaves. The flower stems have a striking red colour, while the leaves are often striped or marbled. This makes the plant visually attractive and unique. A remarkable speciality of the Vriesea is that they store water in the rosette of their leaves.
Care
An important aspect in the care of the Vriesea Era is that the plant needs sunlight, but not too much. The plant prefers semi-shade and must be protected from direct sunlight. In terms of temperature, the plant thrives in an environment between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. It is also important to keep the humidity high, given the plant's tropical origin.
