Origin
Trachelospermum jasminoides, also known as Tuscan Jasmine, originally comes from East and Southeast Asia. This plant is mainly found in Japan, but is also common in Korea and parts of China. Over the centuries, it has spread to other parts of the world, including Europe and America.
Characteristics
Trachelospermum jasminoides is an evergreen climbing plant known for its strong, sweet scent. The leaves are leathery and shiny and change colour from green to red in the winter. The plant produces white, star-shaped blossoms that hang in clusters, usually from spring to summer. This climber can reach a height of up to six meters.
Care
This plant does not require much maintenance. It grows best in well-drained soil and in a place in partial shade or full sun. For optimal growth, it is recommended to water the plant regularly, especially during dry periods. It is also advisable to fertilise the plant every spring to promote healthy growth and flowering. Trachelospermum jasminoides is hardy, but can use some protection in extremely low temperatures.
