Origin
The Ferocactus latispinus, also known as the 'Devil's Tongue Barrel Cactus', is a type of cactus native to Mexico. This cactus species mainly grows in areas with a desert climate and is accustomed to poor soil and extreme temperature differences.

Characteristics
The Ferocactus latispinus is a noticeable plant due to its cylindrical shape and its wide, flat spikes arranged in a spiral pattern on the cactus. The plant can grow up to 60 centimetres high and has a diameter of about 40 centimetres. The flowers of this cactus are red, bright yellow or orange and usually appear in spring and summer. It is a slow-growing species, which means it can take a number of years before the plant reaches its full height.

Care
The care of the Ferocactus latispinus is relatively straightforward. The plant is tolerant of drought and can survive long periods without water, although regular watering during the growing season is recommended. The cactus needs a lot of light and is best placed in a sunny spot. The Ferocactus latispinus needs well-draining soil in order to prevent the roots from standing in water.
