The growth of your plant depends on several factors. Not only is it important that your plant gets the right amount of water, the amount of light the plant receives and the acidity of the substrate also play an important role. With these handy tools you keep your plants in optimal condition.
Sufficient daylight is one of the most important conditions for the growth and development of a healthy plant. Together with water, this is the ingredient that a plant needs to produce energy. Depending on the species, a plant needs a certain light intensity (lux).
The season also plays a role in a plant's light requirement. In the spring and summer the sunlight is a lot stronger than in the fall and winter. It is therefore advisable to keep a close eye on plants that can withstand direct sunlight in winter, during the summer.
For the preservation of the plant it is important to know whether it is in the correct location. That is why you can measure the light intensity with a lux meter. A lux meter is a simple device with which the illuminance can be measured in lux. With the help of this device you know exactly whether the plant receives enough daylight for optimal growth.

A healthy plant starts with good soil. Potting soil is the basis for a good development of the plant. This is sometimes forgotten by many people. For the development of healthy and vigorous plants, the potting soil must meet a number of special quality requirements, such as water absorption capacity, the correct air content and the correct pH value (acidity).
In addition to a good soil structure, certain nutrients are required to promote the development of the plant. The amount of nutrients in the soil is indicated by the EC value. Potting soil from Nieuwkoop Europe contains sufficient nutrients for approximately 6 months. After this, it is important that you regularly add nutrition yourself, for example by using liquid plant food. In addition, the correct acidity (pH) is important. If the soil is too acidic, it will disrupt the plant's nutrient absorption. That is why lime is added to the potting soil to regulate the acidity.

The right amount of water is essential for a good condition of your plant. Make sure that the plant does not get too much water and take into account the possibility that the top of the earth is dry, while the soil at the bottom at the roots is still wet.
When your plants are on (semi) hydroculture, you can make watering a lot easier with the use of a water level indicator. With a water meter the method of watering in hydroculture is almost the same for all plants. Water the plant until the water meter is at optimal (OPT). Note: the water level indicator always responds with some delay and it is possible that grit blocks the water level indicator. Therefore, tap the water level indicator if it does not respond as expected.
