Good news: the Adopt Rainforest foundation has shared some exciting developments with us which we, as our proud partner, can share with our customers. As an importer of Costa Rican plants, we are happy to contribute to the preservation of the beautiful nature in Costa Rica and as a partner of the foundation, we are structurally committed to the protection of the rainforest.
Deer and snakes are returning to the rainforest!
A great development has been the return of all sorts of animals that had previously left the area due to poor habitats. For example, the beautiful, but highly venomous 'Bushmaster' snake has been spotted within the reserve for the first time in 4.5 years of research. In addition, the puma, frogs, and deer have also been seen in the area. The return of deer is also a possible sign for the return of the jaguar, which is an important goal of the foundation. The return of all these animals is a bright sign of an increasingly healthy rainforest.
Another 28 hectares protected area!
The foundation started in 2011 with the purchase and protection of 3 hectares of rainforest and has been able to expand this to 140 hectares so far. Meanwhile, the team is in the process of completing the purchase of an additional 28 hectares. That is equal to about 50 football fields.

Research students also return
Besides purchasing parts of the rainforest, the foundation also researches the rainforest. Usually, the foundation receives students from all over the world every year to come and do research on plants and animals in the area. Because of the COVID-19 virus, it has not been possible to receive students at the research centre in Costa Rica for the past period. Thankfully, the travel regulations have been eased and the first students were welcomed again this week after almost two years. These students will help with the research on reforestation and will also investigate the possibilities of producing chocolate from the cocoa plants on the plot. The plot is part of the Matina region, which is historically a rich area for cocoa production. This is a great opportunity for the foundation to potentially produce chocolate bars and offer them to donors.
The goal of the foundation Adopt Rainforest
The rainforest in Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places on earth thanks to its high biodiversity of plants and animals. This biodiversity is essential to preserve the rainforest for present and future generations. Adopt Rainforest is committed to the preservation of the rainforest by purchasing rainforest. The land purchased is placed under the Nature Protection Law of Costa Rica, protecting it forever from commercial exploitation. The aim is to protect 2000 hectares of rainforest, making it once again desirable for monkeys and jaguars to return to the area. It certainly does not stop here for the foundation, as the support of local people is also part of the goal. The foundation creates a healthier living environment by protecting nature, but also provides employment and local economic growth in the village. Adopt Rainforest continues to develop and act with the future of the rainforest and the local population in mind.
