Archontophoenix alexandrae
Stem
4ARALRS45
Origin
The Caryota mitis is a tropical palm from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This plant is often referred to as the fishtail palm, due to its leaf shape resembling a fish's tail.
Characteristics
At maturity, the Caryota mitis can extend to a height of 2.30-3.00 metres. The plant has dark green leaves that are bifurcated, similar to a fish's tail. This palm is monocarpic, which means it dies after it has produced flowers and fruits. The fruits of this palm are round and turn black when ripe.
Care
The Caryota mitis requires a high light intensity, but thrives best without direct sunlight. The plant is most comfortable at a temperature between 12 and 25°C and needs regular watering, but is also susceptible to overwatering. It's also advisable to spray it regularly with boiled demineralised water, to maintain ideal humidity levels.
