Origin
The Lepismium houlletianum is a plant species that originally comes from South America. This type of cactus mainly grows in the rainforests of Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. Because of their natural habitat, these plants are well adapted to an environment with high humidity and indirect sunlight.

Characteristics
As a member of the cactus family, the Lepismium houlletianum has unique characteristics that set it apart from other similar plants. This epiphytic cactus can grow up to 3 meters high in the wild. The stems are elongated with ribs and covered with small thorns. The flowers are relatively small, these are replaced by red, edible fruits during the flowering period.

Care
As the Lepismium houlletianum comes from a humid environment, the plant needs regular watering. In addition, the plant prefers a place with lots of indirect sunlight. An optimal temperature for this plant ranges between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. Although the plant is fairly hardy, it will perform best if the temperature consistently stays above 10 degrees Celsius. When repotting the plant, it's important to use well-draining potting soil to prevent root rot.
