Origin
The Delosperma Echinatum, also known as the Pickle Plant, is a type of succulent that is originally from South Africa. It belongs to the Aizoaceae family and is often found in the dry and rocky landscape of the South African Karoo region.
Characteristics
Delosperma Echinatum is a perennial plant that is categorised as succulent due to their ability to store water in their leaves. It has small, cylindrical, light green leaves that are covered in tiny white hairs. This plant produces striking yellow flowers in late spring and early summer. As it grows, the Delosperma Echinatum creates a kind of waterfall effect, making it somewhat unstructured but still attractive in appearance.
Care
Delosperma Echinatum requires little maintenance and is relatively easy to care for. It prefers full sun to light shade and well-drained soil. This plant has a high tolerance for drought, thanks to its ability to store water, and therefore only needs occasional watering. However, overwatering should be avoided, as this can lead to root rot and other fungal diseases. Additionally, the Delosperma Echinatum can tolerate light frost, but overwintering in a frost-free area is recommended.
