Origin
The Peperomia argyreia, also known as the Watermelon Peperomia, is a tropical plant originating from South America. It grows in the shady, humid areas of the rainforests. This plant has become popular worldwide since the 19th century due to its distinctive appearance.

Characteristics
The Peperomia argyreia is a compact plant which usually does not grow taller than 30 centimetres. The plant is characterised by its distinctive, heart-shaped leaves with a pattern strongly resembling the rind of a watermelon. The leaves are glossy and possess silver stripes on a dark green background. The Peperomia argyreia rarely blossoms but, when it does, it produces long thin stems with tiny white flowers.

Care
The Peperomia argyreia prefers a light location, but direct sunlight must be avoided. Watering should be done sparingly as the plant is susceptible to root rot from excessive moisture. The plant performs optimally at room temperature and requires moderate to high humidity. It is advisable to repot the plant annually and to feed it with standard indoor plant food in the growth periods.
