Origin
The Phlebodium aureum Davana, better known as the 'Blue Star' fern, has its origins in the tropical regions of South America. It primarily grows wild on the trunks and branches of trees, where it absorbs nutrients from the air and rain.
Characteristics
The Phlebodium aureum Davana is a fern species, featuring long, scalloped leaves in a striking blue-grey shade. These leaves have the unique ability to absorb humidity, which is why the plant often acts as a natural humidifier. The plant can grow up to approximately 1 metre in height.
Care
For healthy growth, the Phlebodium aureum Davana requires a light to partially shaded position and should be protected from the intense midday sun. Water in moderate amounts, making sure that the roots are not standing in water to prevent root rot. It is recommended to provide regular liquid plant food during the growing period between March and September.
