Origin
The Dryopteris erythrosora, also known as the autumn fern, has its origin in East Asia. It can be frequently found on mountain slopes and humid forests in countries such as Japan, China, and Korea. The plant belongs to the Dryopteridaceae family and is also renowned for its decorative characteristics.
Characteristics
The Dryopteris erythrosora is a fern species known for its brown-red young leaves. These leaves gradually change colour to green over time. The plant develops in clusters and can reach a height of 30 to 60 centimetres. Another distinctive characteristic of this type of fern is its feathery, serrated leaf structure. The leaves remain somewhat green throughout the year.
Care
In the care of the Dryopteris erythrosora, it is important to position the plant in a shady spot. This fern species, after all, has a preference for moist, well-drained soil, and an environment with high humidity. During lengthy periods of drought, it is advisable to extra hydrate the plant. The plant tolerates a winter down to -15 degrees Celsius. Pruning can be carried out throughout the entire growth period to remove dead leaves and thus promote the growth of new leaves.
