Origin
The Tephrocactus articulatus originates from Argentina and other parts of South America. These cacti are often found in arid and dry regions. They are well adapted to these extreme conditions and are therefore able to thrive in such circumstances as rocky soils and full sun.
Characteristics
The Tephrocactus articulatus, also known as the Paper Spine Cactus, has a distinctive segmented growth pattern. This cactus is recognizable with its articulated, or joint-like, structure. The stems of this plant are covered with numerous paper-like thorns that are loose and can easily fall off the plant. It has small, purple flowers that bloom very rarely.
Care
Tephrocactus articulatus requires minimal maintenance. They need well-drained soil and must be watered when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, a common problem with cacti. Less water is needed in the winter months. Full sun is essential for the growth and development of this cactus. They can't tolerate frost, so in cold climates, they must be kept indoors.
