DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Anthurium (Plowmanii) 'Birdnest', also known as the Bird's Nest Anthurium, has its origin in the rainforests of South and Central America. Here, this green giant grows on the ground beneath the shade of larger trees, thereby adapting itself to lower light conditions.

Characteristics
The 'Birdnest' variety distinguishes itself through the special growing pattern of the leaves that grow towards each other to form a nest-like shape, hence the nickname 'Birdnest'. The plant can grow up to one and a half meters high and has large, elongated, glossy green leaves that can turn black as they age. The plant rarely blooms indoors, but when it does, the flowers are green and unassuming.

Care
Although the Anthurium (Plowmanii) 'Birdnest' originates from the shady rainforests, it requires bright, indirect light for optimal growth. Excessive direct sunlight, however, should be avoided to prevent leaf burn. The plant prefers high humidity and moderate watering, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out between watering. The plant needs a fast-draining soil mix to prevent root rot. Lastly, the 'Birdnest' thrives best at room temperature and cold temperatures and drafts should be avoided.
