DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Ilex crenata 'Glory Gem', also known as the Japanese holly, originally comes from East Asia. This small-leaved, evergreen shrub is often used as a replacement for the Buxus, which is susceptible to the Buxus moth. The 'Glory Gem' is commonly found in Japan and Korea and has also made its way to gardens all over the world.

Characteristics
The 'Glory Gem' is characterised by its shiny green, pointed leaves which form a dense, compact hedge. The shrub reaches approximately 80 centimetres in height and grows relatively slowly, making it very suitable for topiary. In the spring, the 'Glory Gem' produces unobtrusive white flowers, followed by small, black berries in the autumn and winter.

Care
Caring for the Ilex crenata 'Glory Gem' is quite straightforward. The shrub prefers well-drained soil and tolerates both full sun and partial shade. It is hardy in winter and withstands pruning very well, allowing you to easily maintain it in any desired shape. Watering is particularly important during the dry summer months and when planting. It is recommended to fertilise the shrub twice a year, once in the spring and once in the summer, for optimal growth and development.
