DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Pinus mugo 'Rigi' is a cultivar of the dwarf pine, Pinus mugo, and has its origin in the Central and South European mountain regions, particularly in the Alps and the Carpathians. This species of shrubby conifers thrives in cold, rugged environments and can be found at altitudes up to 2,400 metres.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Pinus mugo 'Rigi' are its compact, bushy growth habit and its slow-growing nature. It reaches a mature height of about 1 metre, width of about 1.5 metres, and has a scale-like shape with densely packed branches filled with dark green needles. These needles are clustered in bundles of two and remain green throughout the year. The cones of the 'Rigi' are small to medium-sized, brown and usually appear in pairs or solitary.

Care
Looking after the Pinus mugo ‘Rigi’ requires little maintenance. It thrives in well-draining soil and in full sun to partial shade. Regular pruning is not required, as it naturally maintains a compact form. However, it is important to remove dead or damaged branches to keep the plant healthy. Winter-hardy and resistant to drought, this plant needs particularly little water, which is especially beneficial in regions with dry summers.
