Origin
The Philodendron xanadu, also known as Thaumatophyllum xanadu, is a tropical plant that originates from Brazil. This plant first developed its distinctive characteristics in the rainforest, before making its journey to other parts of the world as a beloved houseplant.
Characteristics
The Philodendron xanadu is a striking plant thanks to its deep green, glossy leaves. The leaves have a distinctive lobed structure and waved edges. This plant remains relatively small and compact, making it suitable for indoors. In nature, it can reach a height of about 1 meter but generally stays within 60 cm when kept indoors. A distinctive characteristic of the plant is that it can bloom with cream-coloured flowers in its older age.
Care
For optimal growth, the Philodendron xanadu needs a bright location, but it should not be exposed to direct sunlight as this can burn its leaves. It prefers moist but well-draining soil. It is advisable to water the plant once a week during the summer, and twice a month during winter. Regularly dusting its leaves contributes to the overall health of the plant, as dust particles can obstruct its respiratory system.
