Origin
The Ficus elastica Robusta, also known as the rubber plant, originates from Southeast Asia. Here, the plant grows wild in tropical rainforests. The plant eventually spread across the world, thanks to its popularity as a houseplant.

Characteristics
The Ficus elastica Robusta is known for its striking evergreen leaves, which grow on a sturdy trunk. The leaves are shiny, thick, and have a rich dark green colour, giving the plant a robust look. The plant can thrive both indoors in living rooms, and outside in the garden, and can reach a height of over ten metres.

Care
In caring for the Ficus elastica Robusta, a number of factors need to be considered. The plant generally prefers a light to semi-shady location, but direct sunlight should be avoided. In terms of watering, moderation is key, as the plant does not tolerate water logging well. During the winter months, watering can be reduced. In terms of temperature, the rubber plant prefers warm temperatures and high humidity, typical for its tropical origin. Midway through spring, it is advisable to repot the plant for optimal growth.
