Origin
The Croton, officially known as Codiaeum, originates from the tropical regions of India and the Indian Archipelago, where the warm and humid climate provides the ideal growing conditions for this plant species. Its striking colours and shapes led to the Croton mix being brought to Europe in the 17th century. With its unique allure, it quickly became popular as a decorative houseplant, primarily in the Victorian era.

Characteristics
The Croton mix is characterised by its lush leaves that contain a variety of colours and patterns. From red, yellow, and orange, to various shades of green, the leaves display spectacular colour gradations. The plant has a bushy shape and can grow up to one and a half meters high under optimal conditions. The leaves are glossy and leathery and can vary in shape from lanceolate to wavy.

Care
In terms of care, the Croton mix requires a high light requirement. It appreciates a spot with bright, filtered light. Indirect sunlight is ideal, as direct sunlight can scorch its leaves. The plant prefers a constant, warm temperature and humidity, making it somewhat more demanding than some other houseplants. Moreover, the soil should always be lightly moist, but overwatering should be avoided. The Croton mix needs efficient drainage to prevent root rot. Finally, it is recommended to fertilise the plant regularly for optimal growth.
