DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Elaeagnus x ebbingei, also known as the Ebbing's silverberry, is a hybrid between two different Elaeagnus species. The plant was developed in the 20th century and named after Dutch botanist Albert Ebbinge. While the exact origin is not known, it is believed that the hybridization first occurred in Europe.

Characteristics
The Elaeagnus x ebbingei is an evergreen shrub that can grow up to 5 meters tall. The plant boasts a dense, round growth form with grey-green leaves that are woolly underneath and have a silver-like sheen. Small, inconspicuous white flowers that carry a strong, sweet scent adorn the plant from September to November. Silver coloured berries appear from May.

Care
Maintaining the Elaeagnus x ebbingei is simple. The plant thrives in full sun to semi-shade and is rather undemanding when it comes to soil, but prefers well-drained soil. Because of its rapid growth, the plant needs regular pruning to maintain its shape. Ideally, this is done following the blooming period so as not to hinder the growth of flowers and fruits the following year. Although the plant is drought-resistant, regular watering is recommended for optimal growth.
