Origin
The Ctenanthe setosa 'Compactstar', a plant from the Marantaceae family, originated in the tropical regions of Central and South America. These types of plants are particularly abundant in Brazil, where they thrive in the shady understory of rainforests.

Characteristics
The Ctenanthe setosa 'Compactstar' is a distinctive, evergreen plant, particularly notable for its striped, elongated leaves that move at twilight. The plant grows in a compact form and usually reaches a height of about 30 centimetres. The unique movement of the leaves has earned it the nickname 'Prayer Plant'.

Care
A Ctenanthe setosa 'Compactstar' requires high humidity and favours a spot with indirect light. Although tolerant of lower temperatures, it grows best at a temperature around 20 degrees Celsius. Too much sunlight can cause damage to the leaves. The plant should be watered when the top layer of potting soil starts to dry out, but it is sensitive to overwatering. A light fertilisation based on potting soil annually is sufficient for the growth and flowering of this plant.
