Origin
The Philodendron Mc Dowell is an exotic houseplant originally from Central and South America. This green giant belongs to the Araceae family, also known as the aroid family. In these regions, the plant grows in tropical forests, usually found in shadowy spots at the foot of large trees.
Characteristics
The Philodendron Mc Dowell is a sturdy plant characterised by its large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves which are deeply incised. The leaves often have a metallic sheen and can reach a diameter of up to 3 feet. The plant tends to spread in height and width, thus requiring a large growing space.
Care
The Philodendron Mc Dowell thrives in locations with indirect light and high humidity levels. Although it can tolerate some degree of dryness, it performs best in well-drained soil that is regularly watered. However, the soil should never be saturated, as this can cause root rot. The plant is best repotted every two to three years to promote its growth.
