Origin
The Guzmania Punta is a tropical plant, originating from Central and South America. They are primarily found in countries such as Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia. The plant belongs to the Bromeliad family and is named after the Spanish naturalist Anastasio Guzman.
Characteristics
The Guzmania Punta is an epiphytic plant that grows on other plants without extracting nutrients from the host plant. The plant has long, narrow leaves that are green with a silver sheen. These surround a speckled, purple flower stem, crowned with a bright red, pointed flower. The plant can grow up to an average of one metre in height.
Care
Like other Bromeliads, the Guzmania Punta requires lots of light, but no direct sunlight. The plant also needs a high humidity level, which can be achieved by sprinkling it with water regularly. For the Guzmania Punta, it is best to keep the soil lightly moist, but ensure that the plant is not sitting in water. The care for this plant also requires feeding with a weak liquid fertiliser during the growth period.
