Origin
The Plumeria Hawaiian is a type of plant originally from Central and South America. Today, this exotic species can be found in virtually all tropical areas of the world, including Hawaii. The plant has a strong connection with Hawaiian culture and is often used in traditional Hawaiian body adornments. Furthermore, the plant is also known as Frangipani.
Characteristics
The Plumeria Hawaiian is a small tree or shrub that can grow up to about 10 metres in height. The leaves are large, leathery, and are a dark green in colour. The plant blooms with striking flowers that emit a strong, sweet, and pleasant aroma. The flowers vary in colour from white to pink, red, yellow, and various pastel shades depending on the breed.
Care
The Plumeria Hawaiian is a tropical plant and loves warmth and full sun. However, it can also be grown in less warm areas, as long as it is brought indoors at temperatures below 10°C. The plant requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Though the Plumeria Hawaiian is drought-tolerant, it does require regular watering to grow and bloom. It is recommended to deeply water the plant once a week, but let the soil dry out between watering to prevent overwatering. Fertilising the plant during the growing season can also contribute to healthy growth and blooming.
