Origin
The Hoya Chouke is a cross between two different Hoya species, Hoya carnosa and Hoya serpens. This plant species originally comes from East Asia, specifically from countries such as Japan, China and Vietnam. The plant is named after Chouke, the daughter of Emilio Begine, an influential plant grower.
Characteristics
The Hoya Chouke is an evergreen perennial. It stands out due to its small, fleshy leaves and fragrant flowers, which are noticeable because of their waxy surface and star-like shape. The flowers are usually light pink or white with a red core. This plant has a climbing growth habit, which means it can climb towers, walls and other structures.
Care
The care of the Hoya Chouke requires some attention. It needs a warm, humid environment and a well-draining soil type. Direct sunlight is discouraged, as this can scorch the leaves. The Hoya Chouke has a moderate need for water and performs best when the soil dries out slightly between waterings. It is also recommended to fertilise the plant regularly for optimal growth.
