Origin
The Athyrium Spicatum is a fern species that is originally from East Asia, specifically Japan, Korea, and China. Here, it grows in forests, on rocky slopes, and along streams. The plant is evergreen in mild climates and deciduous in colder areas.
Characteristics
The Athyrium Spicatum has long upright leaf stalks that can be between 30 and 120 centimetres in length. The leaves are elongated and wide and have shallow serrations on the edges. The leaf is doubly pinnate, which means that the leaf is divided into leaf segments that are further divided into smaller segments. In addition, the leaves produce a large number of small, round spore clusters on the underside.
Care
The Athyrium Spicatum grows best in partial shade to full shade and requires moist, well-draining soil. Although the plant can tolerate some drought, it performs better when the soil consistently remains moist, especially during the summer months. It's advisable to fertilise the plant in the spring to encourage growth.
