Carex oshimensis 'Everest'
F00003860
Origin
Panicum virgatum 'Northwind' is a type of grass native to North America. It primarily grows in prairies and open woods, but thanks to its attractive appearance and easy care, it can now be found all over the world as an ornamental plant.
Characteristics
It is a robust, perennial plant with upright blue-green leaves that turn a yellow to orange colour in the autumn. The plant can grow up to 2 metres tall and produces small, airy flower plumes that protrude above the leaves in the late summer. These flower plumes transform into a striking bronze colour in the autumn, adding to the plant's ornamental value.
Care
Panicum virgatum 'Northwind' requires little maintenance and is very drought resistant. The plant prefers full sun and well-draining soil, but is also tolerant of various soil types. Although it is normal for growth to die off in winter, the old foliage can be cut back in early spring to promote new growth. An annual addition of compost can help maintain soil fertility.
