Origin
The Opuntia subulata 'Cristata', also known as Eve's Pin cactus, has its origin in the highlands of Peru and Ecuador. This unique species of cactus is part of the cactus family (Cactaceae) and belongs to the Opuntia genus. The plant has adapted to the harsh weather conditions of the Andes mountains and is known for its survival capabilities in dry and rocky areas.

Characteristics
Opuntia subulata 'Cristata' is characterised by its dense, wave-like green stems that are flattened at the top. The stems grow in a distinctive fan shape. Unlike most cacti, this species does not have spines, but is covered with small, hard, hook-like bristles, which look like needles. The plant rarely blooms, but when it does, it displays bright red flowers.

Care
The care of the Opuntia subulata 'Cristata' requires a sunny, dry location with well-draining soil, to prevent root rot. The plant is highly resistant to drought, but during the growing period it should receive moderate water. During the colder months, the supply of water should be reduced. Although the plant is resistant to cool temperatures, exposure to freezing cold should be avoided. When repotting, care must be taken not to damage the delicate bristles.
