Origin
The Acer pal. 'Trompenburg', also known as the Japanese maple, has its origin in Asia. These deciduous trees and shrubs are especially plentiful in Japan, North Korea, South Korea and eastern Mongolia. It is a slow grower that stands out because of its distinctive leaf shape and colour.

Characteristics
The Acer pal. 'Trompenburg' is characterised by its large, strikingly purple-red leaves that turn to red and orange in the autumn. This leaf colour makes the species highly desirable. The leaves are fist-sized and have five to nine lobes. Depending on the growing conditions, the plant can achieve a height of six to ten meters. The flowering time is in April and May, during which purplish-red blossoms appear.

Care
For optimal care of the Acer pal. 'Trompenburg', a sheltered location, partly in the shade, where wind can freely circulate is preferable. The soil should be sufficiently moist but also well-draining to prevent root rot. It is also important to protect the plant from severe frost in the winter. Avoid pruning the Acer in the spring as the tree 'bleeds', sap flows from the pruning wounds. It is better to prune in the summer or autumn.
