Origin
The Ficus Ginseng Retusa has its origin in Southeast Asia, particularly in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. This species belongs to the Moraceae family, which is known for its ornamental and fruit-bearing trees and shrubs. The name 'Ginseng' derives from the similarity of the plant's roots to the ginseng root, and 'Retusa' refers to the shape of the leaves.
Characteristics
Ficus Ginseng Retusa is chiefly appreciated for its striking, twisting root system and compact growth form. The leaves of this plant species are oval, approximately 2-4 centimetres long, dark green and shiny, giving them an appealing contrasting effect with the light, grey branches. In nature, the Ficus Ginseng Retusa can grow into a large tree, but indoors the plant usually remains small to medium-sized.
Care
Despite the fact that the Ficus Ginseng Retusa naturally grows in a tropical climate, the care of the plant is relatively simple. The plant prefers a light position, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. It is important to water the plant regularly, but too much water can cause root rot. In addition, the plant thrives in a relatively high humidity and it is good to dust the leaves regularly to maintain a healthy leaf shine.
