Origin
The Philodendron Mix is a group of houseplants that originally comes from the rainforests of Central and South America. They are part of the Araceae family, one of the largest families of flowering plants in the world. The name Philodendron comes from the Greek words 'philo' (love) and 'dendron' (tree), referencing their natural environment.
Characteristics
Philodendrons are known for their large, shiny, often heart-shaped leaves. They typically grow upwards along a moss pole or they can grow as trailing plants, depending on the species. The plants vary in size, colour and leaf shape, making them a diverse group. Despite the differences, all Philodendrons have aerial roots which they use in their natural environment to attach themselves to trees.
Care
The Philodendron Mix is relatively low-maintenance and grows well in indoor conditions. They prefer indirect sunlight and average to high humidity. Regular watering is important, but ensure that the soil completely dries out between watering. Overwatering can cause root rot. Finally, the Philodendron Mix likes a nutrient-rich soil and only needs to be fed monthly with a liquid fertiliser during the growing season.
