Origin
The Anthurium andraeanum 'Pink Champion', also known as the Flamingo plant, has its roots in the humid, subtropical forests of South and Central America. It is a flowering indoor plant that became popular in the early 20th century, due to its exotic appearance and easy care.
Characteristics
The 'Pink Champion' is a pronounced member of the Anthurium family, with its striking, heart-shaped pink bracts. These form a beautiful contrast with the sturdy, green leaves. The plant usually grows to a height of about 2 metres. It produces characteristic, cob-shaped flower houses that are surrounded by a large, striking pink bract, which offers a long-lasting colour for many weeks.
Care
The Anthurium andraeanum 'Pink Champion' thrives well in a light place, but avoids direct sunlight. It grows best at a temperature between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius. The soil should remain moist, but not saturated, good drainage is necessary to prevent root rot. Fertilising can be done in the spring and summer, with general houseplant fertiliser, about once a month. It is also highly recommended to dust the leaves regularly and spray them, in order to maintain the required high humidity. The plant does not need a rest period in the winter and can produce flowers year-round, provided it is well cared for.
