Origin
The Vanda Michelle, also known as the Vanda orchid, has its origin in the warm and humid climates of Southeast Asia, in countries such as Thailand and Indonesia. The name Vanda is derived from the Sanskrit word for orchid. This exotic plant is highly valued for its beautiful flowers and its ability to grow in a variety of conditions.
Characteristics
The Vanda Michelle is distinguished by its spectacular flower clusters which can grow up to 15 centimetres in diameter. The flowers vary in a range of colours such as blue, pink, and white, with striking patterns on their petals. This evergreen plant has long, narrow leaves and an aerial root system unique to the orchid family. It has the ability to draw nutrients and moisture from the air, rather than relying on soil nourishment.
Care
The care of the Vanda Michelle includes regular watering and high humidity. As an epiphytic plant, it requires a well-draining growth medium, such as tree ferns or baskets, and a spot with bright, indirect light. Although it is an exotic plant, it is resistant to a wide range of temperatures. Temperature fluctuations, however, can cause stress, so it is advisable to protect the plant from extreme cold or heat.
