Origin
The Platycerium bifurcatum, also known as the Elkhorn fern, originally hails from the subtropical areas of Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia. In these locations, this unique fern grows in treetops and on rocky slopes. Over the course of millions of years, this type of plant has adapted to live in a humid and shady environment.

Characteristics
This plant is easily recognisable by its unusual and distinctive leaf shape. The fern has two types of leaves: sterile and fertile. The sterile leaves are round and form a nest to catch moisture and organic material. The fertile leaves have a distinctive antler-like shape and serve as reproductive organs. The colour of the leaves can vary from light green to a deeper green shade, depending on the maturity of the plant. The plant belongs to the Polypodiaceae family.

Care
The Platycerium bifurcatum has specific needs when it comes to its care. First and foremost, the plant requires ample but not excessive sunlight; indirect light is ideal. The plant prefers high humidity, so misting the leaves with water can be beneficial. It is important to remember that the plant should not receive too much water, otherwise the roots may drown. Finally, like other ferns, this plant also requires a moist and well-drained soil. The plant needs little fertiliser and experiences a good rate of growth at a moderate temperature.
