Araucaria heterophylla
Tuft
4ARHETU19
Origin
The Araucaria heterophylla originates from the South Pacific, specifically the islands of Norfolk and Lord Howe. This tree species, also known as the Norfolk Island pine, is not a true pine but belongs to the Araucariaceae family, which is unique to the southern hemisphere.
Characteristics
The Araucaria heterophylla is an indoor plant with distinct symmetric growth. The tree can easily reach a height of 2 meters when cultivated as an indoor plant, but in the wild can sometimes reach a height of more than 60 meters. The needles are organised in separate branches that extend into a flat, spiral shape. Characteristic in this is the dark green colour of the needles.
Care
Araucaria heterophylla has specific care needs. The plant prefers a cool, slightly moist environment and moderate light condition. Regular watering, enough to keep the soil evenly moist, is essential for healthy growth. It is advised not to give this plant too much sunlight as it can fade the colour of the needles.
