Origin
The Aspidistra elatior variegata 8/tray, commonly known as the cast iron plant, has its origin in East Asia, particularly in China and Japan. It is accustomed to a forest understory, where it doesn't require much light. It has many times proven itself to be a strong survivor, despite the fact that it has been overlooked by botanists in the past due to its nondescript appearance.

Characteristics
The Aspidistra elatior variegata 8/tray is an evergreen, ground-covering plant with dark green, leathery leaves that grow upright. The leaves have a striking yellow tinge, which gives this variety its 'variegata' name. The plant is a slow grower, usually not reaching more than 60 centimetres in height. Flowers of the Aspidistra elatior variegata are rare and often appear at ground level, are brownish-violet in colour, and have a fishy smell.

Care
The Aspidistra elatior variegata 8/tray prefers semi-shade to shady places and nutritious, well-draining soil. It is resistant to drought, but will grow better and look fresher if it gets regular water. The plant is also resistant to air pollution and cold. As such, it is a popular indoor plant, especially since it can survive months without water. However, it is recommended to give the plant a thorough watering occasionally for optimal growth and health. It is important to avoid overwatering, as this can cause root rot.
