Origin
The Hoya australis, otherwise known as the Australian Wax Flower, is an evergreen climbing plant native to Australia. The plant can be found all across the country, with the highest concentration on the east coast, where it thrives in a multitude of habitats, from rainforests to rocky coastal areas.
Characteristics
Hoya australis is characterised by its thick, shiny leaves that range from light to dark green. This plant produces striking clusters of white, star-shaped flowers that exude a pleasant sweet scent. The flowers typically develop at the end of new long stems. The blooming of the Hoya australis can vary but mainly occurs in the summer and autumn.
Care
The Hoya australis requires well-drained soil and should be placed in a location where it can receive indirect sunlight for at least part of the day. Although this plant can withstand some drought, it is recommended to water regularly, especially during the growth season. Hoya australis is a climbing plant and therefore requires sturdier support for optimal growth.
