4MICRBP12
Origin
The Phlebodium aureum 'Blue Star', also known as the blue fern, has its origin in the warm, humid climates of South American rainforests. Here, it grows as an epiphyte on trees, preferably situated near sources of running water. It is most commonly found in areas such as Florida, the Caribbean and Central to South America.
Characteristics
This fluffy, blue-green fern is characterised by its large, feathery and curly leaves that grow from a single, brown rhizome. The leaves of this fern species get their blue colour from a waxy layer that helps the plant retain moisture. The plant reaches a height between 50 and 120 centimetres.
Care
Phlebodium aureum 'Blue Star' is an easy-to-maintain indoor plant, it has few requirements. Nonetheless, it has a preference for indirect, bright light and regular spraying is recommended to maintain humidity. The plant thrives well in well-draining potting soil and its water requirement is moderate - overwatering should be avoided at all times. It functions well at room temperature and can survive at a minimum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius.
