Beaucarnea vertakt
nr.15

Origin
The Beaucarnea recurvata Variagata, also known as the Ponytail Palm, hails from the semi-desert regions of Central and East Mexico. This unique plant grows at a slow pace and can live for hundreds of years. Despite its desert origin, the Beaucarnea recurvata Variagata is now cultivated worldwide as a houseplant due to its adaptability and decorative appearance.
Characteristics
The Beaucarnea recurvata Variagata is characterised by its striking, bulbous trunk that serves as a water reservoir. From this trunk grows a lush bunch of long, curved leaves with light green and cream stripes. The leaves are tough and leathery to retain water. This plant can reach a height of 2 to 3 meters indoors, but grows very slowly.
Care
This plant requires little maintenance and is suitable for both full light and semi-shade. The Beaucarnea recurvata Variagata is drought-tolerant and prefers less water over too much. The soil should drain well and excess water must be able to run off. It is also important to protect the plant from temperatures below 10°C, as it is not frost-tolerant.
