Origin
The Dieffenbachia seguine 'Tropic Snow' is a popular species within the Dieffenbachia family, originally from the rainforests of Central and South America. The plant was named after the nineteenth-century German horticulturist Ernst Dieffenbach. In the wild, this exotic plant usually reaches a height of 1 to 3 meters.
Characteristics
The 'Tropic Snow' has large, broadly oval leaves that are bright green and yellow speckled. The leaves can grow up to 50 centimetres long. A distinctive aspect of this plant species is the strong, sturdy trunk that is covered with scars from shed leaves. The plant blooms sporadically, with flowers consisting of white or cream coloured bracts.
Care
The Dieffenbachia seguine 'Tropic Snow' requires bright indirect light and temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius for optimal growth. The soil must be well draining and may slightly dry out between waterings. Watering should be minimised during the winter months. Furthermore, it is recommended to fertilise the plant with a general liquid houseplant food, approximately once a month during the growing season.
