Origin
The Bougainvillea spectabilis, also known as the great bougainvillea, originates from the coastal regions of Brazil. It is a universally appreciated garden and landscape plant that has spread across various warm, subtropical regions around the world. Today, the plant is a common sight in the Mediterranean area and tropical parts of Africa and Asia.

Characteristics
The Bougainvillea spectabilis is a large, lavishly flowering shrub that can grow up to 6 metres high. The plant produces clusters of pink to red flowers throughout the year, which are actually coloured leaves that surround the real flowers, which are small and white. The plant has pointed, oval leaves and thorns that grow along the branches. Despite its robust appearance, the branches of the Bougainvillea spectabilis are quite flexible, making the plant suitable for training on fences, pergolas, and other structures.
