Origin
The Pinus heldreichii 'Satellit', also known as the Bosnian Pine, has its origin in Southeast Europe and is named after the German botanist Theodor von Heldreich. It primarily grows in mountainous areas, particularly in Balkan countries such as Greece, Albania, and Serbia.
Characteristics
The Pinus heldreichii 'Satellit' is a compact bush-like pine, which can reach a height of 2 to 3 meters. This species can be identified by its compact growth and strong, dark green needles. It has perennial, dark brown cones and grows slowly, resulting in a very dense and low-lying plant. Unlike many other pine trees, this tree has a thicker, heavier, darker and shinier needle leaf.
Care
Although the Pinus heldreichii 'Satellit' is well adapted to poor and rocky soils, it prefers a well-drained soil to guarantee optimal growth. It is also known for its drought tolerance and requires full sun for the best growth. Despite being a slow-growing tree, it needs regular pruning for the best shape and density. As the tree is resistant to diseases and pests, there are no specific pesticide or insecticide treatments required for healthy growth.
