The Aquilegia caerulea 'Spring Magic', also known as the Colorado Blue Columbine, is a perennial plant originally from North America. This plant is mainly found in the mountainous regions of the Rocky Mountains. That's why it's also recognised as the state flower of Colorado.
Characteristics
The 'Spring Magic' is known for its striking flowers. These appear in the late spring to early summer and consist of various colours, including white, pink and blue. The flowers consist of five spread out, spurred sepals, forming a delicate star-like shape. The plant can grow to a height of 60 centimetres and has a rosette of leaves at the base.
Care
The Aquilegia caerulea 'Spring Magic' prefers drained, humus-rich soil and a position in full sun or partial shade. This plant is very hardy, adapting well to varying conditions. Moderate watering is needed during the 'Spring Magic's flowering period. Regular pruning after flowering can promote regeneration and further blooming.
