Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey'
Stem braided
4FIBAGS36
Origin
The Ficus lyrata, also commonly known as the 'fiddle-leaf fig', traces its origin back to the tropical regions of West Africa. It is here, in countries such as Cameroon and Sierra Leone, that this special plant forms part of the thriving, green flora in the wild.
Characteristics
With its large, shiny leaves that are shaped like a fiddle, the Ficus lyrata is a striking sight. The leaves can reach a length of over 30 centimetres and have a rich, green colour. Another distinctive feature of the species is the robust yet graceful growth of the trunk, which can reach a height of one to two and a half meters in an indoor environment.
Care
The Ficus lyrata requires a moderate amount of care to flourish. A well-lit location without direct sunlight is ideal for its growth. Watering should be done moderately, it is important that the soil can dry between watering to prevent root rot. The plant's maintenance also involves regularly wiping the leaves to limit dust formation and give the plant a healthy gloss.
