Origin
The Monadenium arborescens is a type of plant from the Euphorbia genus, which originally hails from East Africa. This plant can be found especially in Kenya and Tanzania.
Characteristics
The Monadenium arborescens is a striking presence due to its massive, fleshy trunk and branching branches, which are covered with evergreen leaves. The leaves are long and narrow, while the branches unusually enough are a rosy-purple colour. A notable feature of this plant are the bright red flowers that appear on the tops of the branches in spring.
Care
The Monadenium arborescens requires a sunny to semi-shady spot, ideally indirect sunlight. It needs a well-draining, sandy soil with plenty of organic material. It is important to keep the plant dry in winter, as this is the resting period. In summer, the plant can be watered regularly if the top layer of the earth has dried out.
