Origin
The Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Cristata Strictus', also known as the Twisted Column Cactus, has its origin in the dry regions of Central and Northern Mexico. It is part of the cactus family and loved for its unique, twisted shape. This cactus is found in its original habitat at altitudes between 400 and 2000 metres above sea level.
Characteristics
Characteristic for the Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Cristata Strictus' are its twisted trunks, which resemble a spiral or corkscrew. The height of mature specimens can vary from 2 metres to a staggering 4.5 metres. Another striking characteristic is the blue-green colour of the trunks, which is rather grey-green in a young plant and becomes darker as the plant ages. The cactus blooms in spring and early summer with small, cream-coloured flowers.
Care
The care for the Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Cristata Strictus' requires only minimal effort, making it suitable for both novice and experienced cactus enthusiasts. The plant prefers a well-draining soil to prevent root rot and full sun to maintain the characteristic blue-green colour. While this cactus is drought tolerant, regular watering during the growing period is recommended. However, when the weather is cold, it is advised to reduce watering to prevent frost damage.
