Mammillaria overig

Origin
The Mammillaria overig is a cactus species that originally comes from Mexico. This extensive genus of plants was discovered in the 18th century and belongs to the family of the cacti, also known as Cactaceae. Historic botanical texts show that the Mammillaria overig has been recognized and classified by experts within the plant kingdom for hundreds of years.

Characteristics
Like other cacti, the Mammillaria overig has a very recognisable shape with a fat, round body and numerous spikes. These spikes are formed on what is known as the mammillae or nipple-like structures on the plant. What sets this cactus species apart is its often lavish bloom, with the flowers often appearing in a ring around the top of the cactus. Furthermore, the Mammillaria overig can vary in size, from just a few centimeters to over a meter.

Care
Caring for the Mammillaria overig requires some attention, although the plant is generally easy to maintain. The plant requires a lot of light, but direct sunlight can be harmful and can burn the cactus. Proper watering is crucial - too much water can easily lead to root rot, a common disease among cacti. During the winter months, the amount of water should be significantly reduced to nearly complete soil drying, to emulate the plant's natural resting period.
