Origin
The Echinocereus pectinatus rubispinus, also known as the 'Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus', originates from North America. This type of cactus particularly thrives in the desert areas of Mexico and the southwestern states of the United States. Here, the cactus can be found on the rocky and sandy soils of these arid regions. The Rainbow Hedgehog Cactus adapts well to these extreme conditions, promoting its growth.

Characteristics
The Echinocereus pectinatus rubispinus is notable for its clear, colourful flowers. These flowers range from pink to bright red and provide an attractive contrast with the green or grey colour of the cactus itself. The cactus has long, sharp thorns that form around the base of the plant. What makes this cactus unique is the characteristic ring-like arrangement of up to 14 ribs, a feature that has earned it the nickname 'Rainbow Hedgehog'.

Care
Taking care of the Echinocereus pectinatus rubispinus requires consideration of its natural desert habitat. The cactus needs good drainage and cannot tolerate moist soil, to prevent root rot. It is recommended that the soil is allowed to completely dry out between watering sessions. In the summer this cactus requires full sun, and in winter it should be protected from temperatures below freezing. Once a year, during the growth period, the cactus can be fed with a cactus-specific fertiliser.
