Origin
The Acer pal. 'Skeeter's Broom', also known as the Japanese maple, originates from East Asia. This species has its origin in Japan, China and Korea. In 1920, the plant was cultivated and spread to the rest of the world.
Characteristics
The Acer pal. 'Skeeter's Broom' is a small, slow-growing tree that typically does not grow higher than two to three metres. The leaves are dark red, bursting into vivid red shades in the spring, which then changes to purple-red in the summer and orange-red in autumn. The tree forms inconspicuous flowers in the spring and small winged seeds in the autumn.
Care
The Acer pal. 'Skeeter's Broom' requires relatively little maintenance, but it does have specific needs in order to grow. The tree grows best in partial shade or shade and requires well-draining, humus-rich soil. In addition, it is important to water the tree regularly, especially during periods of drought, and to protect the plant from strong winds and frost. Pruning is discouraged as the plant is sensitive to this.
