Origin
The Rhododendron 'Marcel Menard' is an ornamental plant that originates from the Himalayan region in Asia. This variety of rhododendron was brought to Europe in the 19th century. It is named after Marcel Menard, a French botanist who made significant contributions to the hybridisation of Rhododendrons.
Characteristics
Rhododendron 'Marcel Menard' distinguishes itself by its dark purple flowers that bloom in large clusters from April to June. The plant has dark green leaves which remain beautiful during the winter. Fully grown specimens can reach a height of 2.5 metres and a width of 3 metres, making it an ideal plant for large gardens.
Care
For the Rhododendron 'Marcel Menard', choose a spot in partial shade and make sure the soil is acidic, well-drained, and enriched with peat. Pruning is generally not necessary. Watering needs to be regular and sufficient, especially during dry periods, but be careful of over-watering to prevent root rot. The addition of specific Rhododendron fertilisers in the spring supports the growth and flowering of the plant.
