Origin
The Areca Catechu, also known as the Betel Palm, has its origin in the rainforests of Malaysia and the Philippines. Here, the plant primarily grows in coastal areas and on mountain slopes in its natural environment. Over the centuries, the Betel Palm has spread to other parts of the world, including the Indian Subcontinent and the Pacific Islands.

Characteristics
The Areca Catechu is known for its tall, slim trunk that can reach up to 20 metres high. The leaves are divided into many thin leaflets and can reach a length of 2 metres. Flowers appear at the top of the plant followed by small, red fruits. These fruits are called 'betel nuts' and are traditionally used in Asian culture.

Care
Caring for the Areca Catechu requires some attention. The palm prefers a high humidity level and a temperature between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. In its natural environment, the plant grows in semi-shade, so a light position without direct sunlight is recommended. It is important to keep the plant's soil constantly moist, but overwatering can lead to root rot.
